How I Cope With My Problems

Hello,

My name is Pinky and I am a Christian. When I was 12 yrs old, I prayed to accept Christ into my life. My parents taught me about the bible and took me to church every Sunday when I was young. There were times growing-up that I questioned my faith but studying the bible throughout the years only strenghtened it.

Life is hard whether you are rich or poor. There are all sorts of problems but in my experience, whenever I have problems, God is always there to meet my needs.

When I was in nursing school in the Philippines, my Mom became ill with cancer and that was really tough for me and my family. We were able to cope with our sadness, financial hardships and emotional crisis because we prayed to God daily as a family.

I had to forgive the Pathologist that gave the wrong diagnosis when the lump on my Mom's breast was initially discovered. He reported that the biopsy was benign , so she didn't get the adequate treatment she could have had 10 yrs earlier. It was only into the 5th year that we found out she had cancer when she complained of hip pain and bone biopsy was done. The initial breast slide was compatible with the hip slide and it was cancer. By then it was too late. The next 5 years was a life of hospital admissions, chemo, radiations, remissions, and blood transfusions until she finally rested in 1982. Our comfort was in the belief that she was going to a place prepared for God's children and she was no longer in pain. We will see her again someday.

I came to the U.S. in 1983 as a nurse on a working visa. It was a culture shock and the job was much harder than I was trained for. I cried every night for 3 months but God was always there with me, giving me hope that things would get better. And it did.

I met Bobby in 1985 and I married him in 1986. We have 3 children. There are joys of parenting but there are also challenges. Where do I go? I talk to God about it. Lots of prayers have been said for my children. At one time, I even joined the group Moms-In Touch International. My oldest was involved in drugs and a bad crowd. Only God and prayers preserved my sanity. Praised God he straightened out. Marriage is not easy either. I often say that it is only because of God that we are still together. Where there is Christ, there is also forgiveness. As we slowly grow into spiritual maturity we become less selfish and that helps a lot! We are still learning and making adjustments.

Having a family history of cancer, I have mammograms done every year. One of those years, I was told to come back so the doctor could do an ultrasound because they saw a cyst on the mammogram. I became extremely concerned about it. I thought I was going to die. The next day, before I went to work, I hurriedly opened my bible to read something. My eyes fell on the words, "And all shall be well with you. You will see your children's children." There were other words in between those sentences but I couldn't remember them all. I was so relieved. I clung to those words all day. That evening as I lay on the treatment table at the Breast Center, I talked to God. I said, "Lord, you talk to us through your word, don't you? And you are not going to lie, are you?" The doctor came, did the the ultrasound, then he told me not to worry because it was just a benign fluid-filled cyst. Thank you, Lord.

Pride? I had lots of it. I learned my lesson when my life did not go the way I planned it. I was a stay-at-home Mom and did not have a very favorable opinion about a working Mom. Then, it happened, I had to go back to work so now, I am a working Mom! I was homeschooling and did not like the public school. Well, guess what? I had to put my kids in Public school! We were so proud of our yard and despised the people who didn't have a green yard. Guess what, again. The yard died and never resurrected. I learned to be humble but I couldn't have made it without God. God has been my rock, my salvation, my constant companion.

I wish I had lots of money but I discovered life is more than that. God showed me I just need to trust Him with my needs. He has been faithful. We got our house for free!!! Also, there were so many nice things I found in garage sales for so little, why would I need a lot? However, I wanted to make sure I had plenty of it for my vacation. So, I signed up for some overtime and after a few times, my blood pressure went up. My body was tense and I wasn't getting enough rest. I cancelled my next overtime and cut-down on my planned commitment. My blood pressure went down. I check my bp everyday and its been normal. I take my concerns to God and trust Him that He will provide. By doing this, I avoid taking expensive medications. Worry and stress over money will surely cause you to spend it on things you didn't plan for.

When going through difficult times at home, work and relationships, I cry out to God. I have 911 prayers , " Lord, help quick!" If I mess-up, I say, "I'm sorry Lord, Please forgive me." If I'm angry and unforgiving, I say, "Ok Lord, I forgive him/her. Jeremiah 33:3 Says, "Call unto Me and I will show you great and mighty things which you do not know."

Satan's aim is to steal, kill and destroy. I have to be alert when he is injecting negative thoughts in my head. When doubts cloud up my mind and I can't think clearly, I must pray and trust. When I don't understand why other Christians aren't behaving the way they should, I try to remind myself that we are all sinners and maybe satan is blinding their minds and using them to confuse me.

There are times, I would feel anxious when I'm waiting on something or worry over little things beyond my control. It is a very unpleasant feeling so what i do is I would try to talk about it, drink my stress-buster tea, sing with the karaoke machine, play the piano, read my bible, clean the house, ask my husband to massage me, listen to piano music and of course pray about it.

If my plans are not going the way it should, I rely on Romans 8:28 "All things work together for good to those who love the Lord, to those who are called according to His purpose." It is so much easier to trust Him than to worry. His way is the best.

The good thing about being a Christian is that I have Christian brothers and sisters that are willing to listen and help me pray about my problems. They serve as my counsellors, prayer partners, psychiatrist and friends.

God is faithful. He speaks to me through His word. Believe me, I have experienced the love of our loving God and I hope that you will too.

The following verses are compiled from the Holy Scriptures to show you how God desires a relationship with you.

A Special Report- You Are Loved

For God so loved the world (you!) that He gave
His one and only son (Jesus)
that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting (eternal ) life.
John 3:16

What Happened?
Then the Lord said to the woman, "What is this you have done?"
and the woman said, "The serpent deceived me and I ate."
Genesis 3:18
(For the complete story, you can read Genesis Chapter 3)

For all Have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death ...
Romans 6:23

God Loves You and Me

But God demonstrates His own love toward us in
that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us
our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
"Come now and let us reason together," says the Lord.
"Though your sins be as scarlet they will be white as snow."
Isaiah 1:18a

You Can Experience God's Love

But as many as received Him,
to them He gave the right to become children of God
even to those who believe in His name.
John 1:12

Behold I stand at the door and knock, If anyone
hears my voice and opens the door,
I will come into him and I will dine with him
and He with me.

I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Hebrews 13:5

Become A Child Of God Right Now

You can pray this simple prayer:
Lord Jesus, I need you
Please forgive me of all my sins.
Thank you for dying on the cross for me.
I invite you to come into my heart and be my Savior and Lord.
Help me to live the life you want me to live. Amen.

(...and without shedding of blood, there is no remission. Hebrews 9:22b)
we have redemption through His blood,
the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace" (Eph. 1:7).
To be redeemed means to be bought back.
The price has been paid and it is through the blood of Jesus Christ by dying on the cross.

Have Faith In God

And without faith it is impossible to please Him,
For he who comes to God must believe that He is
and that He rewards those who seek Him.
Hebrew 11:6

And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His son.
He who has the son of God has life; he who does not have the son of God does not have life.
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God,
in order that you may know that you have eternal life.
1 John 5:11-13

For by Grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves.
It is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9

May God bless you on this Special Day!
